Access by Air
Scheduled air access is via Grand Bahama Island International Airport in Freeport (FPO), serviced by American Eagle, Continental Connection, USAirways, Bahamasair, Spirit Airlines, Delta, as well as several charter operations. Direct service to Freeport is available from Miami, Ft Lauderdale, Palm Beach, Orlando, the New York area, Atlanta and Charlotte, NC. Access by Sea
Private boats can enter The Bahamas at the Old Bahama Bay by Ginn sur Mer Marina, an official Port of Entry with on-site Customs and Immigration. Numerous cruise ships call on Freeport and Port Lucaya, with many making the passage from Florida in less than five hours.
Traveling to and from The Bahamas
You must have PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP.
As of January 2007, all US citizens are required to have a valid US Passport to travel to and from The Bahamas. Call the Bahamas Tourist Office at 1-800-BAHAMAS for more information.
Upon arrival on Grand Bahama Island
You will be greeted at the airport. Please exit the airport and a transfer driver will be holding a sign with your name on it.
Currency Information
The currency in The Bahamas is the Bahamian Dollar (B$) that is pegged to the US$ at the rate of .995 to one. In daily use, the currencies are on par. US dollars may be readily spent as payment for local transactions. A form must be submitted to the government Exchange Control Department to convert Bahamian currency back to US$. Local banks can assist with this requirement.
