Old Bahama Bay is in the historic village of West End, Grand Bahama Island, approximately 26 miles west of Freeport and 56 miles due east of Palm Beach, Florida.

Access by Air - West End Airport NOW Open!!!!

The West End Airport (MYGW) is a private airport which reopened for use on June 1, 2014.  The new airport opens Old Bahama Bay Resort & Yacht Harbour and the idyllic destination of West End, Grand Bahama Island to private pilots and charter operators.  Just 56 miles from Palm Beach, Florida and with 6,000 feet of paved runway, the West End Airport is a pilot’s dream.  

The airport is a daytime only, VFR only, operation. No instrument approaches are available and no night landings/takeoffs are permitted. The airport is open 7 days a week from 8 am to 5 pm.  The ICAO code is MYGW and the IATA code is WTD.

Only aircraft which have been pre-approved by West End Airport Management and Bahamas ATC may land. This requires that the registration number of the aircraft be submitted and approved. Airport fees and charges are being finalized at this time. The maximum aircraft landing weight limit is 18,000 lbs. No fuel, GPU or aircraft tug services are currently available.

Private pilots can also take advantage of a special package from Old Bahama Bay.

Grand Bahama Island International Airport in Freeport (FPO) 

Scheduled air access is via Grand Bahama Island International Airport in Freeport (FPO), serviced by American Eagle, Silver Airways, Delta, Bahamasair, and others including several charter operations. Check with your travel professional, or the Old Bahama Bay reservation agents for the latest flight information.  You are now able to book your flights at the same time as your hotel suite through our US Reservations office on 888.983.6188. Old Bahama Bay will arrange airport taxi service for you.  Simply provide your flight number and arrival time when making your hotel reservation.

NEW - Sea Plane Service!
Tropic Ocean Airways is now providing an exciting way to travel directly to Old Bahama Bay from Fort Lauderdale International Airport.  Tropic Ocean Airways is an FAA regulated airline that provides transportation on either four passenger or eight passenger seaplanes.  Tropic Ocean Airways was founded by a U.S. Navy TOPGUN Fighter Pilot and places safety and customer service first.

Access by Sea

As a US and Bahamian licensed charter service, Reel Candy Sport Fishing Charters has been fishing in the Stuart/Jupiter area for many years and has been providing licensed fishing charter services to visitors to the Bahamas longer than any other foreign fishing charter service.

Old Bahama Bay is excited to be able to offer a new charter partnership with Reel Candy.  Charters are available from Jupiter to West End for just $2,900. This special rate includes fuel, Bahamian customs and entry fees, and dockage. The newly renovated luxury 47’ sport fishing yacht accommodates up to 6 people, and the charter can be for an unlimited number of days – so go for a weekend or a week!  Passengers on the Reel Candy will enjoy fishing the waters on the way to and from West End.  Daily fishing charters while in West End can be booked separately. 

Accommodations during your stay are available at our luxury resort and must be booked separately.  Guests are not allowed to sleep aboard the vessel.  Check room availability through Old Bahama Bay.

Old Bahama Bay offers known routes direct to the marina entry, from several south Florida locations. For the most pleasant voyages, travel with a light southerly wind and seas of less than 3 feet. For additional routes at a small fee, please visit Marine Planner.

Navigational Tips

Daylight approach: From a distance of a 5 miles, a red and white stripped water tower identifies West End. Closer in, two entry jetties mark the entrance to the marina. There is a 30 foot weather service monitoring tower at the tip of the portside jetty.

Night time approach: Red & Green navigation lights at the end of the entry jetties are visible from approximate 3-5 miles.

Access by Cruise Ship

The Celebration Cruise Line is the exclusive cruise ship sailing out of the Port of Palm Beach to Freeport.  All cruise passengers receive a comfortable cabin for the cruise.  Accommodations include economical coach cabins, oceanview staterooms and luxurious suites.  The ship departs on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday out of Grand Bahama Island, and departs on Monday, Wednesday and Friday out of Florida.  Visit them on-line at Celebration.

The Baleària Bahamas Express accommodates 463 passengers. Cruising at 32 knots, the vessel undertakes the Gulf Stream crossing in just two and a one-half hours. With a convenient schedule, the service is ideal for a one-day excursion or overnight adventure. Departing from Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades Terminal One at 9 a.m., the ferry arrives into Freeport Harbour at 12:00 noon. The return trip departs at 6 p.m. and arrives into Fort Lauderdale at 9 p.m.

Baleària Bahamas Express offers two types of seating areas: Economy and VIP 1 Day/First Class. Day-trippers can choose either the Economy day rate of $49.50 or the VIP 1 Day rate of $65 and overnighters, the Economy rate of $75 or the First Class rate of $90. Additional charges include a Bahamas Departure Tax of $18 and operational charge of $12.50. Currency

The official currency of The Bahamas is the Bahamian Dollar (B$).  It is pegged to the US$ at the rate of .995 to one. In daily use, the currencies are essentially on par with each other. US dollars may be readily spent as payment for local transactions. A form must be submitted to the government Exchange Control Department to convert Bahamian currency back to US$. Local banks can assist with this requirement.
