"GINN RESORTS LENDS A HELPING HAND DURING
INTERNATIONAL COASTAL CLEANUP DAY"
WEST END, Grand Bahama ISLAND (September 26, 2007) – For the third year in a row, employees of Old Bahama Bay at Ginn sur Mer joined students of the West End Primary School for an environmental cleanup in their seaside community as a part of the international observance of Coastal Cleanup Day.
Employees and students worked side by side, collecting cans, bottles, plastic bags, discarded clothing, footwear and fishing lines from the resort’s northern coastline. Bob Van Bergen, Vice President and General Manager of Ginn sur Mer, applauded resort employees and the youngsters for volunteering their time and energy.
“Along with operating a world-class resort comes the responsibility of taking care of our environment. Ginn Resorts has long made a concerted effort to preserve and protect the areas in which we develop and it’s crucial for our employees and area children to become involved in the effort,” he said.
Old Bahama Bay was the first resort in The Bahamas to qualify for the Blue Flag Award from the Foundation of Environmental Education (FEE). Blue Flag is a voluntary and exclusive eco-label awarded to beaches and marinas that have met FEE’s strict criteria dealing with water quality, environmental education and information, environmental management, safety and service.
“This designation is one we must continue to earn,” Van Bergen said of the Blue Flag award. “The incredible natural beauty of The Bahamas should be preserved and celebrated not just today, but all year long,” he added.
“One of our Bahamian mottos is ‘Let’s Keep Our Country Clean, Green & Pristine’,” said Jerreth Rolle, the leader of Old Bahama Bay at Ginn sur Mer’s Coastal Cleanup. “By participating in this exercise, we’re showing support for this national initiative,” Rolle explained.
Ginn Resorts is currently developing Ginn sur Mer, a 2,000-acre resort community adjacent to Old Bahama Bay that will contain more than 4,400 condominium and hotel units, nearly 2,000 single family residential home sites, Signature golf courses designed by Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer, clubhouses, two large marinas, a private airport, a Monte Carlo-style casino, water and swim pavilions, a beach club and a spa. The $4.9 billion Ginn sur Mer development will serve as Ginn Resorts’ flagship Caribbean development.
